Reeve v Palmer (1858) 141 ER 33

Facts: Plaintiff (Pl) had left a number of title deeds in the possession of his solicitor, the defendant (D). Pl demanded them back a number of years later and D claimed that he had lost them ( i.e. not an intentional action to deprive the owner of possession). D claimed that because he had no means of answering Pl’s demand, he could not be liable in detinue.
