Spartan Steel v Martin (Contractors) [1973] 1 QB 27

Facts: The plaintiff's (Pl) factory where steel was manufactured was supplied with electricity by a cable which powered a furnace. The factory operated 24 hours a day because it was not possible to allow the furnace to cool as it would cause the molten steel to solidify which would cause damage to the machinery. The defendants (Ds) were working on a road outside and damaged the cable with an excavator requiring the power to be shutoff.
